Action and Use

Mupirocin is an antibiotic active against Gram-positive bacteria including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Mupirocin is also active against certain Gram-negative bacteria. Due to the particular mode of action and its unique chemical structure, Mupirocin does not show any cross-resistance with other clinically available antibiotics. Mupirocin is used for topical treatment of superficial infections such as impetigo and infections due to Staphylococci and Streptococci and to control infected eczema, wounds and burns.
